Calendula arvensis

Family:  Asteraceae
Annual.  Native to the Mediterranean, S. to Central Europe and SW Asia. Vigorous self-seeder. A rare offering of the parent plant of our domesticated Calendulas. Makes bushy plants with  MULTITUDES of small, star-like flowers.    Should be of great interest to plant breeders and gardeners of the rare and unusual.  Can be used interchangeably with Calendula officinalis for the same medicinal purposes. This plant also has the reputation of being a gentle soporific (sleep inducer).  In N. Africa and Spain, the young plants are a traditional food, steamed or boiled in soups.  Plant prefers full sun, average to rich soils, water.  Space plants 1 foot apart.  Flowers dark yellow to 3 feet tall.
