Dave Krieger was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and graduated from North Hollywood High School. He is presently working for his Bachelor's degree at Occidental College in Los Angeles. He was promoted to Black Belt in karate in 1964 and is now an assistant karate instructor at Bill Ryusaki's Ryu Dojo, 12002 Victory Boulevard in North Hol lywood, Calif. Krieger is affiliated with the American Karate Assn. and the International Karate Federation. | |
Gene Bailey, 28, was born in Cresco, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Grass Valley, Calif., and is now in the-Air Force at Misawa Air Base in Japan. He started judo in 1960 at the Air Force Judo and Combative Measures School, Stead AFB, Nev. He holds the rank of Black Belt. He has placed high in several championships, includ-ing 3rd- place heavyweight in the 1964 PACAF Championships. He is Vice-President of the Pac. Armed Forces Judo Assn. and Captain of the Misawa Team. |

Michael Gigliotti, 14, a junior high school student in New Britain, Conn., started karate when he was 11 (his father is a Black Belt); when he was 12 Mas Oyama picked him to demonstrate at New York's Madison Square Garden and spent a whole day teach-ing him kata. Last Nov. Mike was tested for Black Belt and movies of the test were sent to Japan, Oyama telephoned New Britain from Tokyo to tell Mike he was promoted. Guy Pelletier, 44, was born in Paris, France, and graduated from the College de Caousou in Toulouse. M. Pelletier is the chief in-structor of the Judo Club St. Martin at 73 Rue Notre Dame de Nazareth in Paris. He holds Black Belt rank in judo from the Fed-eration Francaise de Judo et Disciplines Assimilees, and his full-time occupation i s to train the French National Judo Team. He has served as a judo judge in the World Championships and at the Tokyo Olympics. |

Tooru Takamatsu, 46, born in Tacoma, Wash., went to high school in Venice, Calif. He now manages a produce company in Denver, Colo. In 1953 he began teaching Judo at a Buddhist church in Denver; over the years the sport grew until in 1963 a building was purchased and after a $60,000 remodeling was named the Denver School of Judo. M;. Takamatsu is chief instructor. He is also an AAU officer and 2nd Vice-President and Chairman of the Board of Examiners of the JBBF. | |
General Choi Hong Hi, 47, was born in Myung-chun County, Hambuk, Korea He is a graduate in law of Choong-Ang Univer-sity and has attended advanced Army schools at several military bases in the United States. He is presently serving as an ambas-sador in the Republic of Korea foreign ser-vice. General Choi is a high-ranking Black Belt in Korean karate and is President of the Korean Tae Kwon Do Karate Association. |

Tetsunari Fujita, 23, was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, and holds a Bachelor's degree in economics from Meiji Gakuin Univ. in Tokyo. He holds a Black Belt from the Yoshinkai Aikido Association. He came to Ontario, Canada, in August 1964 and is presently a co-instructor of aikido at the Tsuruoka Karate and Aikido School in Toron-to. Yoshinkai is a variant of the aikido devel-oped by Morihei Uyeshiba, devised by one of his students, Gozo Shiodo, and Kenji Tomiki of the Kodokan. | |
Dang Thong Tri, 36, born in Phu Le, Viet Nam, went to high school in Saigon and holds a degree in criminology from the Faculty of Law of the Univ. of Paris, France. He earned martial arts Black Belts in aikido under Nakazono in Saigon and in judo from the London, England, Budokwai. In Viet Nam he was chief judo and aikido instructor of the government Youth and Sports Dept. He founded the Viet Nam Aiki Kai and teaches now at the Peninsula Acad., Monterey, Calif. |

Eric Blount, 58, first took up judo at the age of 52, in Australia. He continued his practice after being transferred to Papua, New Guinea, under visiting instructors from Australia and Japan (including former All -Japan Champion Y. Takeuchi) and today he is a Black Belt. He was born in Birmingham, England, and studied there and in Australia. He's married with two children. He is chief instructor of the Port Moresby Judo Club, Papua, New Guinea. | |
Jimmy H. Woo, 50, was born in Canton, China. He attended Toy San High School and holds a degree in physical education from the Univ. of Canton. He now lives in El Monte in Southern Calif., where he teaches the Chinese karate kung-fu at his Studio of Karate Kung-Fu. "Kung fu in the old coun-try, China, does not have ranks," he ex-plains. "It was handed down from my great- great grandfather, and my father taught me from the time I was 7 to the time I was 20 years old." |
